Privacy Policy
Beginary helps adults with ADHD start tasks. To do that, we handle some genuinely personal information — what you're trying to do, how you're feeling, when you struggle to begin. We treat that as the trust it is. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Your task names are private — we don't sell them, advertise against them, or hand them to a coach. Coaches never receive your task names, and there's no setting that turns that on. Mood data is treated as especially sensitive: individual mood entries aren't sent to analytics, advertising, coaches, or AI providers unless we clearly explain it and you choose that feature. When you ask for a breakdown, we send that task's title and notes to Anthropic to generate the steps — and you can turn AI off. We don't run streaks, leaderboards, or shame loops. We never let our AI provider train its models on your content. We don't use your content to improve Beginary's own features unless you turn that on — it's off by default, and you can switch it off anytime.
This policy covers the Beginary website at beginary.com, the waitlist, and the Beginary iOS app. Beginary is operated by Beginary LLC ("Beginary," "we," "us"). Some features described here belong to the app, which is in development; the waitlist sections apply today. Some app features described here may not be available yet and will apply only when those features launch.
1. Information we collect
Waitlist (active now)
If you join the waitlist on this site, we collect the email address you submit. We use it only to send you a confirmation that you're on the list and a single launch announcement when the app is available. The signup form includes a hidden anti-spam field; if it's filled, we discard the submission. Your email is stored in our database (Supabase) and passed to our email provider (Resend) solely to deliver those two messages. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we purge the waitlist after launch unless you create an account or separately opt in to receive further product updates.
Account and profile (app)
- Sign-in identity — when you create an account with Sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we receive an identifier and, depending on the method, an email address, used to authenticate you.
- Display name — what you'd like to be called in the app.
- Optional demographics — if you choose to share them, an age range (not a birthday), gender, and profession. These are optional, and "prefer not to say" is always an option.
Your content (app)
- Tasks — titles, notes, categories, and when you've scheduled them.
- Mood check-ins — how you're feeling (e.g. Fine, Wired, Heavy, Stuck) and how a task feels to you.
- AI breakdowns — the step-by-step breakdowns generated when you ask for help starting a task.
- Voice capture — when you talk through what's on your mind, the words you say, turned into text on your device so we can pull out tasks. The audio itself is never recorded or saved (see "Voice capture" below).
- Activity — completions, focus sessions, and the patterns that help the app meet you in the moment.
Voice capture (app)
Beginary lets you talk through what's on your mind instead of typing, and turns it into tasks. Here's how your voice is handled:
- Your speech is turned into text on your device, using Apple's on-device speech recognition. The audio doesn't stream to Apple, to us, or to anyone else.
- The recording itself is never saved — no audio file is written to your phone or uploaded anywhere. It exists only in memory while you're speaking and is discarded the moment you stop.
- The text of what you said is sent to Anthropic to pull out the tasks in it, under the same terms as AI breakdowns (Section 3), including zero-data-retention where available — Anthropic doesn't keep it and doesn't train on it.
- Beginary never receives or stores the audio — only the text Apple produced on your device. We don't use your voice to identify you, and we don't build a voiceprint.
- If on-device transcription isn't available on your device, we let you type instead — we never send your audio off the phone to make it work.
Biometric information (Illinois BIPA)
Beginary does not collect, capture, purchase, receive through trade, or otherwise obtain "biometric identifiers" or "biometric information" as those terms are defined by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14/). When you use voice capture, your speech is transcribed to text on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition; the audio is never saved or uploaded, and we do not create a voiceprint, perform voice recognition to identify you, or use your voice for authentication. Only the resulting text is processed, exactly as described in this policy.
Device and technical
- Push token — an Apple Push Notification token so we can send nudges and alarms you've asked for.
- Subscription status — whether you're on the free or Pro tier, handled through Apple and RevenueCat. We never see your card or payment details.
- Anonymous analytics and crash data — an anonymous identifier and diagnostic information to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes. We configure this so it is not tied to your name or email and does not include task or mood content.
2. How we use your information
- To run the core service — show your timeline, send the nudges and alarms you set, and help you start tasks.
- To generate AI task breakdowns when you ask for one (see Section 3).
- To process your subscription through Apple's App Store.
- To understand product usage and fix problems, using anonymous analytics and crash reports.
- To send waitlist confirmation and launch email, and account or service messages.
We don't sell your data. We don't show ads or use your data for advertising. We never share your task names with a coach — there is no setting that turns that on. We never let our AI provider train its models on your content. We don't use your content to improve Beginary's own features unless you opt in — it's off by default and you can turn it off anytime (see Section 4). When you ask for an AI breakdown, your task title and notes are used only to generate that breakdown. And we don't run streaks, leaderboards, or shame-based engagement tricks.
3. AI task breakdowns and Anthropic
When you ask Beginary to break a task down, the task title (and, if present, its notes) is sent to Anthropic, the AI provider, to generate the steps. We keep this tight:
- We send a task's title and notes only when you ask for a breakdown.
- We log only minimal information server-side — counts and status, not the full content of your prompts.
- We configure our AI provider's settings to minimize retention where available, including zero-data-retention options when supported for our account and the model we use.
- We don't permit our AI provider to use your task content to train models for its other customers.
- Provider retention rules can vary by service, model, and legal or safety requirements, and we'll update this policy if our AI provider or retention approach changes materially.
- Your task data is never combined with another user's in a single AI request.
- You can turn AI breakdowns off in the app's settings. Nothing is sent to Anthropic unless you ask for a breakdown.
- The same protections apply to voice capture: when you use it, the text transcribed on your device — never the audio — is sent to Anthropic to pull out tasks, with the same minimal logging and retention-minimization described here.
4. Improving Beginary (optional)
We're always trying to make Beginary better at turning what you say into tasks, and at breaking tasks down. You can choose to help with that — and it's entirely optional. This is off by default. Beginary works fully without it.
If you turn it on in settings, you let us keep a copy of what you've shared — like the text from a voice capture and the tasks or breakdown it produced — so we can see how well Beginary did and improve it over time.
- We use what you share to review and improve Beginary's own features — how we turn what you say into tasks, and how we break tasks down. That can include our team reading examples and improving the logic and models behind these features.
- This is for improving Beginary's own product only. We still don't let our AI provider train its models on your content, and we don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
- What you share for this purpose is linked to your account and kept until you delete your account, at which point we delete it along with the rest of your data.
- You can turn this off anytime in settings. Turning it off stops us from keeping anything new for this purpose.
However you set this, we never keep the audio of a voice capture, and we never use your content to detect or respond to emergencies (see Section 5).
5. Mood and sensitive data
Mood check-ins and how a task feels to you are mental-state data, and we hold them to a higher bar. Individual mood entries aren't sent to analytics, used for advertising, shared with a coach, or sent to an AI provider unless we clearly explain it and you explicitly choose that feature. We only ever record what you tell us; we don't infer your mood.
We don't monitor mood check-ins for crisis detection or emergency response. Beginary is not an emergency or crisis-response service — if you or someone else may be in danger or needs urgent help, contact your local emergency services or an appropriate crisis line right away. We can't see your content in real time and can't act on it. If Beginary ever shows general informational resources (for example, a crisis line), that's provided for your convenience only — it isn't monitoring, isn't a substitute for professional or emergency help, and may not appear in every situation.
6. Coaches (a future feature)
Beginary plans to let you connect with an ADHD coach. This feature is not yet available, and when it ships it will follow strict rules:
- A coach sees patterns — mood distribution, completion patterns, category-level activity, consistency — not your task names, notes, or individual mood entries.
- Your task names are never shared with a coach, and there is no setting that turns that on. The same is true for your task notes and how a task feels to you.
- Connecting a coach is your choice. Before any data flows, you link a specific coach and give a separate, explicit, opt-in consent to share your mood distribution and aggregate patterns with that coach. It is off by default.
- If you unlink a coach, their access through Beginary ends immediately and nothing is retained on their side. We require coaches to be bound by our Coach Agreement before any of your data flows, and to handle anything they receive through Beginary according to that agreement and our privacy rules.
To be clear, coaching is not clinical care, therapy, or medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. When this feature exists, coaches are independent providers, linking a coach stays opt-in, and task names are never part of what's shared.
7. Who we share information with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with the service providers that make Beginary work, each handling a narrow slice for a specific purpose:
- Supabase — secure storage of your account and app data, and authentication.
- Anthropic — AI task breakdowns and turning voice captures into tasks, only when you use those features (Section 3). Receives the relevant text, never your audio; configured so it doesn't train on your content.
- Resend — sends the waitlist confirmation and launch email. Receives only the email address, only to deliver those messages.
- Apple and RevenueCat — process and manage your subscription. We never receive your payment details.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics. Receives an anonymous identifier and event counts only — never your name, email, or task or mood content.
- Sentry — crash diagnostics, with task titles and notes stripped before anything is reported.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and Beginary.
8. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If your account remains inactive for 24 months, we automatically delete it and its associated data as part of keeping only what we still need. Server-side debugging logs are retained for at most seven days. We purge the waitlist after launch unless you've created an account or opted in to further updates. If you delete your account, we process the deletion promptly — though removing data from backups and our providers' systems can take a limited additional period. We may retain minimal records where we need them for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or App Store subscription reasons. If you opt in to help improve Beginary (Section 4), what you share for that purpose is kept until you delete your account or turn the option off, after which we stop keeping new material for it.
9. Your rights and choices
- Access and export — you can request a copy of your data.
- Correct or update — change your account and profile information where the app provides it.
- Delete your account — deleting your account removes your data from our systems and triggers deletion requests to our analytics, crash, and subscription providers.
- Turn AI off — disable AI breakdowns in settings so nothing is sent to Anthropic.
- Control product improvement — turn "help improve Beginary" on or off anytime in settings. It's off unless you choose it.
- Control nudges — adjust or turn off reminders and alarms.
- Manage subscriptions — restore purchases and manage or cancel your subscription through Apple's App Store settings.
- Unsubscribe — opt out of waitlist or launch email at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under U.S. state privacy laws — such as the California CCPA/CPRA (see Section 10) and the consumer privacy and consumer health data laws of states like Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut (see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy) — including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your data, and to lodge a complaint with a regulator. We do not sell personal information as those laws define it. To exercise any right, contact us at the address below.
Appeals. If we deny a request you make to exercise your privacy rights, you may appeal that decision by emailing hello@beginary.com with "Appeal" in the subject line. We will respond within 60 days and explain our decision. If we deny your appeal, you may submit a complaint to the Connecticut Attorney General (select "Consumer Data Privacy"), or to the attorney general or privacy regulator for your state.
10. California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to: know and access the personal information we collect; request deletion of it; request correction of it; and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. The categories of personal information we collect and our purposes for using them are described in Sections 1 and 2. To exercise a right, email hello@beginary.com; we will verify your request and respond within the timeframes required by law. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. If you're a resident of a state with a consumer health data law (such as Washington, Nevada, or Connecticut), please also see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
11. Data location and security
Beginary is offered only in the United States, is intended for U.S. residents, and is not directed to individuals in the European Union, the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or other regions outside the United States. Please do not use Beginary if you are located outside the United States. Your data is stored on infrastructure located in the United States. We protect your data with encryption in transit and at rest, row-level access controls that keep your data accessible only to your account, and access limited to what each service provider needs. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe. If a security breach involving your personal information occurs, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by applicable law, including the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act (815 ILCS 530).
Our team doesn't routinely access your task or mood content. Limited access happens only when it's genuinely needed — to provide support you've asked for, investigate abuse or a security issue, comply with the law, or fix a technical problem — and only by authorized personnel.
12. Children
Beginary is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll give you clear notice. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
